My top three romantic restaurants on the Bellarine

June 20, 2016

Romantic restaurants do exist even when living out of the City, you just have to know where to find them. In my time down here, I have discovered a few secret spots that I think offer the best food and wine, service and atmosphere for that all important date night/day with your love.

It’s important to get out without the kids every now and then. My husband and I are terrible at it, but when we do, we have a wonderful time. We laugh and have meandering conversations and remember what it’s like to be partners without the ever present child waking and crying, throwing food or worse interrupting! Don’t go to the local Chinese. Break out of your routine, rent a cab and check out my romantic favorites below.

1.Terindah Estate – winery

90 McAdams Lane, Bellarine Victoria

P 5251 5136

Dining style: A la Carte, indoor and outdoor. Lunch and dinner.

This award-winning boutique winery and restaurant is a real little gem. Not yet discovered by the more mainstream crowds, but yet still often fully booked with discerning foodies, ladies who lunch and of course couples, seeking ‘food with a view’. Did I mention the view across a sprawling lawn? With endless grape vines in the foreground and the sparkling, azure of Corio Bay as a back-drop this place oozes that special occasion factor. The floor to ceiling glass and wooden high beamed ceilings create a lovely, airy, spacious feel. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable, and the wine list is of consistent high quality, and most impressively all of their own providence.  For a romantic lunch or dinner you can’t go past Terindah Estate, now offering Winter Wine dinners on Friday and Saturday evenings,  with live music and a roaring open fire.

2. One Day Estate – winery

45 Curlewis Road, Curlewis Vic 3222

Ph. 0408 123 980

Dining style: Casual buffet style dining.

If you are after a Sunday drive, a few wines and an open fire, this winery and restaurant is magnificent. The setting can be described as ‘rustic glamour’ with the perfect combination of casual dining and a cosy, rural atmosphere. Only opening on Sundays, One Day Estate offers its popular Sunday Sessions every week throughout the year. Select lunch from a smoking hot pan of paella, risotto, roast lamb rolls, or sample a generous pre-made cheese platter to compliment your wine. The wines are all delicious,  small batch, hand-crafted Pinot Noir, Shiraz and Riesling. This place has an instant ‘wow’ factor and offers dozens of instagram-able corners and vignettes. You won’t run out of conversation here and if you do, just order more wine!

3. Little Red Fox Eatery

600 Banks Road, Marcus Hill Vic. 3222

Ph.5245 7282

Dining style: Casual / relaxed a la carte.

Previously known as Bistro at Banks, the Little Red Fox is one restaurant location I truly adore. Sitting atop a majestic hill, surrounded by thought provoking sculptures, this simple, yet ambient little spot is the perfect place for you and your better half to stare into each other’s eyes for hours. Newly branded and under new management, the team at Little Red Fox aim to provide locally harvested produce, to create simple and delicious dining. This charming and intimate establishment will not disappoint.
