Farm gates are one of my favourite things. The Bellarine and surrounds are brimming with them, and they are generally kid friendly, sometimes dog friendly. and always offer the reward of touching and often tasting the food straight from the maker before you buy.
If you are after the freshest tomatoes on the coast, look no further than Londsdale Tomato Farm. Whether it be a bruchetta, a chutney or a passata , this juicy farm gate is the one not to drive past. Offering a range of freshly grown on site tomatoes, herbs, and other fresh produce, this quaint little stop on the way to Point Lonsdale, is a great way to pick up supplies for dinner, lunch or just a delicious healthy snack. All the produce is hydroponically grown and spray free.
It is very rare these days to buy ‘fresh off the boat’ fish or shellfish, but this rare little gem delivers. With a reputation for being one of the best farm gates in the region, there’s no doubt in my mind as to why. We regularly grab a bag of fresh mussels from here, and they never fail to disappoint. Cooked up in some stock, garlic, white wine and parsley and a fresh crusty baguette. What could be better?

A newly built cafe after the original was ravaged by fire will be opening late December. You can pick and pay by the bucket, and there is plenty of lawn for picnics and a slide for the kids. What’s not to love!
I love goats, and I love goats cheese, so this is a no-brainer for me. Set in the picturesque hills on the corner of the Drysdale/Portarlington Road and Scotchmans Road, this little farm is delightful. Their farmgate shop is open the first Sunday of every month for tastings and sales.
